The San Francisco company leaves private beta testing today, and it also announced that it has raised seed funding from Google Ventures, AOL Ventures and others. Chief executive Julius Schorzman and head of product Dave Matthews told me that while it may not be obvious to shoppers, most online retailers do a lot of price adjustment and experimentation - in one week, the price of a product can change several times, fluctuating by as much as 20 percent. And Schorzman should know, since he used to work at Amazon. So Shopobot is collecting data about those changes and using that information to recommend the best time to buy. Schorzman and Matthews said that they've been tweaking the interface so that data geeks can still dig into the numbers, while more casual shoppers aren't overwhelmed. Ultimately, if you tell Shopobot what you're looking for and when you're looking to buy it, the site can give you a straightforward recommendation - buy (if the price is at the low end of its likely price … [Read more...] about Google Ventures-backed Shopobot tells you the best time to buy
Social-sharing and scheduling tool Buffer has published its research into a major social media study that analyzes almost five million tweets to identify when the best time to tweet is. The San Francisco-based company has built a solid reputation for its social sharing tool, letting users schedule posts easily. Download the Buffer mobile app or browser extension, connect it to your social media accounts, including Twitter, and you can "Buffer" posts to publish at pre-set intervals such as "every half-an-hour" or a variant of your choosing. Buffer has a lot of data at its disposal and, as such, has delved back almost five years to garner a bigger picture of when the optimal time is to send a tweet. "I believe this really shares a very detailed look at the state of what is the right time to publish on Twitter and can hopefully help a lot of people trying to improve their Twitter efforts," Buffer cofounder and COO Leo Widrich tells VentureBeat. "Since social media is so young, it's been … [Read more...] about When is the best time to tweet? Buffer trawls 5M messages to find out
This sponsored post is produced by Echobox. The Internet is awash with attempts to answer the seemingly simple question of when a publisher should share on Facebook to achieve maximum traffic. Coschedule, Fast Company, Hubspot, ShortStack, Forbes, Hootsuite, QuickSprout and many others all claim to have the answer. And there's evidently appetite for this knowledge: the supposed 'best time' insights are being used to guide a vast number of publishers in how they go about posting to social media. But conventional wisdom is flawed, and by examining data from sector-leading publishers, we've learned that there are no universal 'best times' to share content on Facebook. For our investigation, we analyzed the median traffic that articles received from Facebook three hours after they were shared. Some news stories are prone to 'go viral', and so we used the median for all stories, as the mean may be skewed by outliers. The daily averages were based on one year's worth of data. For data … [Read more...] about Whats the best time to share on Facebook? New data shows the answer isnt so simple.
There's plenty of research and data that shows the best time to tweet or when to show your ads on Facebook or Google AdWords among other platforms. Posting at the right time ensures that you get to your target audience at the time they're most likely to view your content and take necessary action. But content websites have had less guidance. What is the best time to present ads to your readers? What is the best content strategy that will ensure your website visitors make the most of your content and ad? To better understand the behavior of users on content websites, CodeFuel - an engagement and monetization suite for publishers - and Nielsen conducted an online survey, published in September 2016, which reveals fascinating statistics about ad consumption preferences, preferred devices, and content consumption. If you know exactly what your users are doing throughout the day, you can make the most out of your ads. The best time for content consumption This is extremely important to … [Read more...] about New study reveals best time to show ads
Analysts said today that the only winners in yesterday's decision by a Delaware judge to let Walter Hewlett's lawsuit continue against Hewlett-Packard Co. to block its merger with Compaq Computer Corp. are Dell Computer Corp., IBM and Sun Microsystems Inc. -- and anyone else who competes against the computer maker. While the analysts said they agree that there might be merit to Hewlett's claims against the company his father co-founded, they also said they believe that Hewlett should let go and move on. "It is kind of like it has turned into a soap opera at this point," said Laurie McCabe, an analyst at Boston-based Summit Strategies Inc. "His complaint may be valid, but it has reached the point where it looks like the 2000 presidential election. At some point, the Democrats had to let go, hanging chads and all." Art Russell, an analyst at St. Louis-based Edward Jones, agreed. Like McCabe, Russell said that he originally opposed the merger and didn't think that it would be in the … [Read more...] about Analysts to Hewlett: It’s time to move on
Microsoft on Monday made its most aggressive move yet to convince customers to drop Windows XP and adopt Windows 7, telling them that there were only 1,000 days of support life left in the older operating system. Stephen Rose, IT community manager for the Windows commercial team, noted the 1,000 days remaining for Windows XP support in a post to a Microsoft blog. "Windows XP had an amazing run and millions of PC users are grateful for it. But it's time to move on," Rose said, adding that the operating system exits security support in "less than 1,000 days." The 10-year-old XP actually has a little longer to live than that: Microsoft has promised to patch XP through April 8, 2014, 1,002 days from Monday. "Bottom line, PCs running Windows XP will be vulnerable to security threats" after that date, said Rose. "Furthermore, many third-party software providers are not planning to extend support for their applications running on Windows XP, which translates to even more complexity, security … [Read more...] about Microsoft revs dump-XP campaign, says ‘time to move on’
I don’t consider myself a picky eater, but there are certain things I just can’t swallow. Raw celery, for example, or cilantro. Another one is ripe bananas. When bananas turn bright yellow or start having those hideous brown spots, forget it. I have to throw the whole bunch away. I can’t even stand the smell. The only time I can eat the fruit is when the peel is still greenish — at least at the tips. Apparently, that’s not how many of my friends eat their bananas. I’ve gotten into several heated conversations about optimal ripeness level — so I decided to investigate this and call up some scientists. Is there a best time to eat a banana? Does anything in the fruit change as it ripens? First off, let’s make clear that I’m talking only about Cavendish bananas. That’s basically the only type of banana you can find in the US — at least for now. The Cavendish is being wiped out by a disease called Tropical Race 4, and … [Read more...] about When is the best time to eat a banana?
Picking the best CPU or graphics card is by no means an easy task. For most, factoring in everything from system temperatures to clock speeds is nothing short of a migraine. But, while dancing between Intel vs AMD and Nvidia vs AMD is a daunting decision: knowing when to buy your components is equally important. Like the question of what to buy, there's no straightforward answer to the best time to buy a CPU or GPU. Instead, it largely depends on your specific needs. Would you rather spend more on a slightly more powerful, seventh-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor or an older, but still great, Skylake chip? Should you shell out $250 (around £190, AU$325) for a GeForce GTX 1060 over the GTX 980 equivalent, knowing there are still kinks to be worked out? Patience is a virtue The reality is, according to NewEgg SVP of Sales and Marketing Merle McIntosh, that it's impossible to recommend a single way for everyone looking to upgrade their rigs. "Everyone is on a different upgrade … [Read more...] about When is the best time to buy a new CPU or GPU?
Picking the perfect photo or video to post on Instagram can be a challenge, but now, thanks to a new update, you don't have to choose. After it was first spotted in beta, Instagram is officially rolling out a feature that lets users bundle up to 10 photos and videos in a single post. The images will appear in a gallery view, letting your followers swipe through to see what's next. While this all-in-one format will help prevent you from spamming your feed (how many photos of your last vacation do we really need to see?), Instagram imagines uses such as chronicling a birthday party from decorating to blowing out the candles, or detailing a step-by-step how to for your followers. Flip-stagram When uploading images, you'll see a new icon to help you select more than one. If you want to change the order in which your photos and videos appear, simply press down and move the slide. Adding filters and other edits can be done individually, or applied to the entire post. Unfortunately, you … [Read more...] about Can’t pick just one photo or video to post on Instagram? Now, you don’t have to
Recently, when we shared how to get more followers on Twitter, we mentioned about how important it is to tweet in the time, when you get maximum visibility. One trick is to tweet your post multiple times to make sure that people in different time zone will read your tweets. But instead of tweeting 10-20 tweets at random time of the day, it’s best to find the best time to tweet and get maximum exposure. Of all things good with Twitter, the power of twitter in increasing traffic to blogs is now a well-known fact. The importance of twitter for blogs/websites can be gauged from the fact that most of the blog owners now create separate accounts for their blogs apart from their personal accounts. This helps in reducing the clutter of links in the personal timeline and most importantly helps develop a focused community around your blog on twitter just like Facebook Page. However, the only problem with Twitter is the sheer pace at which the information moves. The attention span for … [Read more...] about 3 Twitter Tools To Determine The Best Time To Tweet
