Apple has updated its iPad lineup by unveiling the iPad Air 2 ad iPad mini 3. Both of these build on the existing hardware by adding some new features already present on the iPhone line. The biggest improvements come to the iPad Air 2. First off, pretty much as you'd expect from Apple, the new iPad Air 2 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It is now 6.1mm thin, making it an amazing 18 percent thinner than the iPad Air, and it also comes in a fraction lighter at 0.96 pounds. While on the outside the 9.7-inch 2,048 by 1,536 display looks the same, internally there are some big differences. Three separate layers of the display have been fused into one, making it thinner and giving it better colors and contrast. The display on the iPad Air 2 also features antireflective coating, giving iPad Air 2 the least reflective display of any tablet. Powering the iPad Air 2 is Apple's new 64-bit A8X processor, based on the A8 found inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This gives it the new … [Read more...] about Apple’s iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3: Hardware specs

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Oct 2014, 13:22 The gang from Cupertino just took the stage in the local hall, and announced the third generation of the line, dubbed simply iPad mini 3. The munchkin got thinner, lighter, faster and with a better camera, not to mention bragging with the latest iOS 8.1 release out of the box, that enables Apple Pay for the masses. Yep, the mini 3 also got the TouchID fingerprint scanner, so you can now pay for iTunes and store purchases with it... This is a discussion for a news. 0. phoneArena posted on 27 Oct 2014, 07:52 We measured significantly shorter battery life with the new mini 3, compared to its predecessor. As usual, Apple doesn't list battery capacities, but it's not hard to assume that the juicers are the same, as is most everything else with the two tablets. Still, the iPad mini 3 did last about hour and a half less on our tasking battery benchmark, compared to the mini 2, so have this in mind when gunning for the Touch ID-laden version... Apple’s invitation to its October 16 press event may have read, “It’s been way too long,” but we all know the company launched the iPhone 6 and unveiled the Apple Watch less than two months ago. Nonetheless, the company recently took to its Cupertin0-based campus to reveal its latest editions to the heralded iPad lineup, including the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.Apple decided to add Touch ID and a gold color option to the iPad Mini 3 this time around. It certainly doesn’t boast the sheer number of improvements as the larger iPad Air 2— the larger iPad now has Apple’s A8X processor and an 8-megapixel rear camera — but how does it compete when stacked up alongside last year’s iPad Mini 2 (with the Retina display)? Take a look at the spec comparison below for a quick glance at the internal hardware and software powering both machines. Hint: They’re not that different. The highly-anticipated Apple TV wasn’t the only product CEO Tim Cook happily unveiled at company’s latest media event in San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. “Today we have the biggest news in iPad since the iPad,” said Cook to a chorus of applause and peppered shouting. “Biggest” couldn’t be more true, either, given the newest addition to the iPad lineup — aka the iPad Pro — touts a 12.9-inch display that towers over previous generations of the iPad in both stature and resolution. The aptly-titled device also runs Apple’s latest operating systems and boasts the fastest processor the company has ever conceived, whether you prefer to work with your hands or opt for the new Apple Pencil or Keyboard upon the tablet’s tentative release in November. Additional features such as four-speaker audio and enhanced camera components add to the tablet-centric fanfare, however, how does the new device compare when … [Read more...] about Spec showdown: iPad Pro vs. iPad mini 3
The iPad Mini occupies an interesting little niche in the Apple ecosystem, especially now that the iPhone Plus is out. It’s made to be a handheld pad with a bigger screen than an iPhone but more maneuverability than an iPad, sort of in the e-reader size.
