Did you happen to grab one of K.O. Gadget's uber-cool Luminescent Apple logo mods for the iPhone 4/4S this morning? If you did, consider yourself lucky. Just like the iTether app before it -- which slipped through the App Store Gestapo's fingers around Thanksgiving -- the Luminescent Logo Mod Kit for iPhone 4/4S may have become the victim of Apple legal. M.I.C. Gadget's Chris Chang first broke the news about the replacement iPhone 4 and 4S rear panels that feature a transparent Apple logo and a backlit panel that is hot-wired to the iPhone's logic board: the light, which glows when the phone receives a call or message or when the alarm sounds, would stay on for 15 seconds even after the screen goes off. And most importantly, the light does not noticeably affect battery performance or cause any heating issues. Some time around 10:00am ET, the site became unresponsive and was either overcome by high demand or taken down at the request of Cupertino. Perhaps it was KO's … [Read more...] about Best iPhone mod of 2011: the glowing Apple logo

Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010) I wouldn't put $ on curved screens for the iP6. Apple tends to follow market trends in screens, and only after the market has conclusively indicated a preference. Remember how long it was until Apple went to 4 inches from 3.5? Same delay to go from 4 inches to 4.7 or 5.5. Curved screens aren't exactly burning up the market in the U.S., so I really don't see curved screens in the iP6. 36. Thanks to a few case makers, serial image leakers, and lots of mockups, we basically already know what the iPhone 6 will look like. It will be thinner with a bigger screen and a new iPad Mini-like design. If you have any lingering doubts about the general appearance of the gold iPhone 6, luxury company Brikk unveiled its gold-plated, 4.7-inch iPhone designs on its website. It also formally announced the luxury iPhone 6 designs in a press release. Since there’s no case on this mockup, Brikk’s images show us almost exactly what the iPhone 6 will look like. Just imagine this phone with more of a champagne gold color than bright gaudy gold and you’re in the clear. In the images, you can clearly see that the iPhone 6 is significantly thinner than the iPhone 5S and the screen is much bigger. The back of the device has the same design that we’ve seen in several iPhone 6 leaks. The iPhone 6 is mostly metal with just a few white accent lines, the Apple logo, and … [Read more...] about And this is what the gold iPhone 6 will probably look like
Any company can develop a powerful laptop. After all, everyone uses the same internal components: Intel Core processors, Nvidia or AMD graphics chips, and lightning-fast solid-state drives. You can even do it yourself if you have the knowhow, but Dell and Apple have the resources and institutional knowledge to take things a step further than the competition. The Dell XPS 15 and MacBook Pro 15 are natural rivals. Set them on a desk beside each other, and the comparisons almost make themselves. They’re both thoughtfully constructed from premium materials, feature high-end internal components, and they’re both flagship products from their respective companies. Each one represents thousands upon thousands of hours of research, development, and industrial design — and it shows. These laptops are impeccable, so to find out which one comes out on top in a direct comparison, we’re going to have to dig deep and get picky. Read on for more details.By the numbers Dell … [Read more...] about Dell’s XPS 15 vs. Apple’s MacBook Pro 15: Which premium laptop is the best on the market?
Now that invites for the October 27 Apple event have seen sent out, there's much speculation about what we will, and won't, see from a purported new generation of MacBook Pro laptops. Thus far, the generally agreed-upon predictions -- as rounded up by Macrumors -- are: New MacBook Pros with a thinner, lighter design and a secondary touchscreen at the top of the keyboard. That tiny screen is said to be replacing the function key row and providing context-based commands -- different "soft" buttons which would vary depending on the app in use. Possible minor updates to the MacBook Air, which is one of the longest-standing designs in the Apple universe. A minor spec bump may be in store for the iMac desktops. The elevated level of interest in new MacBooks, especially with an expected major redesign such as this, is reflected in many of the messages I receive from CNET readers. Among the most common email topics is a variation on: "When will product X get updated?" And, more often than … [Read more...] about Will new MacBooks finally make it easier to pick the perfect Apple laptop?
Apple will release a new iPhone this fall. This is for sure. Will it be an iPhone 6S or already an iPhone 7? Speculations and rumors run of course already wild ahead of the next iPhone release. For many Apple fans the iPhone 6 has design flaws that they are hoping Sir Jony Ive will fix in the next iPhone. German Computer Bild hired Martin Hajek to help Apple come up with a beautiful design for the iPhone 7.Martin Hajek goes a bit beyond what is possible with his fantasy iPhone 7. The home botton is embedded in the screen for instance. This looks awesome, but is big technical challenge. Where Hajek did not go far enough is the screen bezel. It is way too big. A dream iPhone 7 has no bezel at all, especially on the side edges. The iPhone 7 backside features a glowing Apple logo, which is a nice touch. The isolation lines run all around the edges making it look much cleaner. The question is if this design of the isolation gap is actually practical. A design without those lines would be … [Read more...] about IPhone 7 Imagined By Martin Hajek
