Then the thought hit me: would the lyrics of these songs be relevant in today's advanced telecom world of VoIP, 3G mobile, etc? After analyzing the lyrics of about 20 of these songs, I've concluded that while the overarching message- one of important communication- is timeless, the details about the phone process in some of these songs have been superseded by advances in technology and services. So let's have some fun by going over some of these songs and see how they fare in the telecom world of 2006. "Hello My Baby"- Thought to be the very first telephone song, this actually came out in 1899. One graf of the lyrics said: “Ev’ry single morning you will hear me yell Hey central, fix me up along the line He connects me with my honey and I ring the bell And this is what I say to my baby mine…” Some interesting points: the calls have to be routed through a human at a central switchboard, and that board is literally manned by a "he." Actually the earliest … [Read more...] about Let’s have fun with old songs about phones- do they still hold up in 2006?

Are Macklemore and other white artists taking advantage of historically black music genres? That’s the question posed in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ nearly nine-minute track White Privilege II, in which the singer ponders his role in the Black Lives Matter movement. The song is the sequel to the duo’s 2005 song White Privilege.“This song is the outcome of an ongoing dialogue with musicians, activists, and teachers within our community in Seattle and beyond,” the pair explained in a statement on the song’s Web site. “Their work and engagement was essential to the creative process.”After beginning the song by explaining that he’s not sure if he should join in on the Black Lives Matter chant, Macklemore wonders whether he and other artists are taking advantage. The song specifically calls out Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea for appropriating black music, saying that they’ve “exploited the music” and they’re … [Read more...] about New Macklemore song ‘White Privilege II’ reflects on Black Lives Matter movement
Whether you call it fate or luck, the story of the Pixies is coated in a thick veneer of fairy dust. The Boston-bred band was an enigma from its inception. It formed after guitarist Joey Santiago read a passionate (and long) letter by lead singer Charles Thompson while he was studying abroad. The two promptly quit college and discovered their original bass player Kim Deal after placing a simple ad in the local newspaper. When they asked drummer David Lovering to join them in 1986, he hadn’t played in years. Yet somehow, it all worked. Heck, even their first recordings were only made because a fan happened to manage a studio. Then there’s the band’s near-mythological timeline: Following a terrific debut full-length from now-legendary Nevermind engineer Steve Albini that featured songs like the iconic Where Is My Mind, the Pixies made three more records in quick succession before eventually breaking up in 1993. They became known as a brilliant … [Read more...] about The Pixies are dead, long live the (new) Pixies

“Every time we get together as a band, we realize we have more to explore, more to create, and more that we want to say to the world.” Some metalcore bands veer perilously close to being one-note performers, but not The Devil Wears Prada. Rather than taking an “all-pummeling, all-the-time” approach, TDWP have deftly woven melody and harmony into their head-banging track beds, as evidenced by the scope of the 11 tunes on their sixth studio album, Transit Blues, out now in various formats via Rise Records. From the chugging call to arms of Lock & Load to the breath-catching tone break of Flyover States to the slow build to caterwaul of The Condition, Transit Blues shows that when it comes to creating new music, the song most definitely does not remain the same with The Devil Wears Prada. And that’s something the band, a longtime Warped Tour fan favorite, felt was key while collaborating with their go-to producer, Dan Korneff (Pierce the Veil, Motionless … [Read more...] about The Devil Wears Prada’s new LP battles your ‘ADD’ with perfect song placement
Peter Chou cannot be sleeping well, as of late. As CEO of the embattled smartphone maker HTC, he has laid everything on the line for the One. He’s so invested and confident in his company’s new flagship smartphone that he told senior executives that he would step down as CEO if it failed, according to the WSJ.He may want to start packing his bags. The HTC One is, most likely, not going to turn things around for HTC. It doubles down on the exact same strategy that HTC used to push its flagship phone, the One X, last year. And that one didn’t sell too well. It’s a beautiful Android phone, but like the One X:It has a name that sounds strange and confusing when you say it out loudIt has a great camera, but its ‘revolutionary’ features (Ultrapixels and Zoe) come up shortIt has a custom interface that looks good, but annoys some usersIt isn’t being released on all major carriersIt’s been delayed for various reasons (last year, the One … [Read more...] about Did HTC’s CEO just sign his own resignation with the new One?

Then earlier this week we featured the new fake web site campaign with Mustafa and today the next viral hit for Old Spice arrived.
