While I was shooting images for our all-shipping-iPhones camera test (SE, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and 7 Plus telephoto), I had quite a few people ask on Twitter about the iPhone 6. I didn't include it in our big test simply because it was too many iPhones to carry around NYC by myself — five was pushing it! — but I still wanted to give iPhone 6 owners an idea of how their shots might compare to the new 7 camera. So, without further delay, here's a quick test comparing all of Apple's 4.7-inch phones: I went through a variety of common shooting situations, as well as a section on color tests. We're working on getting galleries to properly display in the iMore app and on RSS; until then, to properly view these photos, please visit our website. How we tested I shot with the iPhone 6, 6s, and 7 over the course of a few days using just the phones and the Camera app. The resulting photos haven't been touched up in any way — they're exactly the way the … [Read more...] about Camera tests: Battle of the 4.7-inch iPhones 6, 6s, and 7!
United Airlines continues to hand out high-tech devices to its in-flight staff, in hopes of making their jobs easier. The airline was one of the first to bring iPads into the cockpit to replace pilots’ paper-based navigational charts and other heavy flight materials. Now, it’s handing out iPhone 6 Plus handsets to its flight attendants and customer service representatives to eliminate the need for safety manuals and better help them assist customers. Updated on 12-01-2015 by Malarie Gokey: Added news that United will give 6,000 customer service representatives iPhone 6 Plus units. The program began with flight attendants, but United revealed it will expand the program to 6,000 customer service representatives. That way, United reps can help customers print boarding passes and baggage tags at the airport. The iPhones will also bring up alternate flight options, so that reps can assist fliers on the go.In the future, the airline aims to make the full check-in … [Read more...] about United Airlines loves the iPhone 6 Plus so much it’s giving it to 6,000 more employees
Apple has scooped top prize at an international advertising event in Cannes for its “Shot on iPhone 6” campaign which it launched earlier this year.Selected as the best entry at this week’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in the outdoor category, which includes billboards, posters and the like, the campaign showcased the camera on Apple’s latest smartphone with stunning images taken by users of the device from around the world.Apple worked with its long-term ad partner TBWA Media Arts Lab to create the campaign, and spent time scouring sites such as Instagram and Flickr to find suitable photos.Once the 160 or so image owners had given permission for their work to be used, Apple launched the campaign on its website before shifting it to more than 10,000 billboard and poster sites in 70 cities across 24 countries. The ads also appeared on TV and in print media around the world.According to Fast Company, Jury president Juan Carlos Ortiz … [Read more...] about Apple scoops major ad industry award for its ‘Shot on iPhone 6’ campaign
The iOSphere this past week wondered at the prospect of iPhone 6 with a Supercharged Siri, an all-knowing, all-doing software entity that will manage your iOS life for you. Eventually, probably in iOS 9, Siri will offer psychotherapy. The Bummer of the Week was a confused, and confusedly reported, rumor that Apple is negotiating with carriers to raise the iPhone 6 price by $100. Why Apple would need carrier by-in to price its smartphone was unclear. The rumor resulted in something rarely seen: cheers for the carriers, who according to the Wall Street analyst who floated the context-less rumor, were supposedly resisting the hike.Bloggers and tech websites also eagerly sifted through anonymous photos of third-party phone cases, “specially designed for the iPhone 6,” and bigger batteries that, although they could be for any smartphone, if you think of them as being for the iPhone 6, show that the iPhone body would have to be larger, too. It’s simple really. You read it here … [Read more...] about iPhone 6 rumor rollup for the week ending April 18
On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the latest additions to its iPhone family, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. They're the largest iPhones ever, and according to Apple, they're "better in every way" than its last generation of smartphones. Both of these high-end devices are very similar, but there are five notable differences between them that potential iPhone 6 buyers should consider before making a purchase. 1) iPhone 6 v. iPhone 6 Plus: Size and WeightThe most obvious difference between the two new iPhones is size. The iPhone 6 Plus is gigantic, and it's Apple first real "phablet." (The iPhone 6 Plus is so big, it could replace your 7-inch tablet.)The iPhone 6 Plus packs a 5.5-inch display, but its true height is about 6.22 inches (158.1 mm), with the bezel around the screen making up for the additional space. It's also 3.06 inches (77.8 mm) wide. Its sibling, iPhone 6, has a 4.7-inch screen, but its actual height is 5.44 inches, and it's 2.64 inches wide. The differences in size may not … [Read more...] about How to Tell If the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus Is Right For You
The iPhone 6 will be just a little smaller than the just-released Samsung Galaxy S5, and virtually identical to the Nexus 5, but thinner. This is the conclusion of Toronto-based mobile device expert Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy, based on a prototype of a case for the forthcoming iPhone 6 procured by the leak-o-sphere’s Australian prodigy, Sonny Dickson. In a video released yesterday (see end of this post), Hilsenteger does a Goldilocks comparison of a mockup of the iPhone 6 inside the leaked case and the current iPhone 5s (too small), the Galaxy Note 3 (too big) and the Nexus 5 (just right!)What is significant about the video is that this case represents the first tangible physical evidence of what the form factor of the iPhone 6 will be. Dickson himself released some shadowy images of purported case backs covered in cling film back in February. The actual case backs of the iPhone 5s and 5c that Dickson obtained almost two months before those phones’ official reveal … [Read more...] about Large-Screen IPhone 6 Emerges As The Leaks Suddenly Get Physical
Rumors around the iPhone 6 have focused on the possibility of a significant increase in screen size and the use of Sapphire Glass. I think the real change will be in the technology of the display. The iPhone 6 display will be a significant improvement over any other LCD smartphone. It will use the same Quantum Dot technology as the Kindle Fire HD7, but with an Apple twist. It will deliver a much wider color gamut than the Fire. Amazon compromised on color gamut in favor of color reproduction accuracy. There are several reasons for believing that Apple will use Quantum Dot (QD) technology and that the iPhone 6 will be a major coup for Nanosys, a company that holds over 300 patents in QD and counts Samsung as one of its major investors. At the time of Samsung’s investment, GreenTechMedia called it a “back from the dead” moment for Nanosys. The two companies are believed to cooperate on energy technologies as well as displays.News of Apple working on QD has been leaking … [Read more...] about Apple Will Make The IPhone 6 Display The ‘Killer App’
Apple's iPhone has long been one of the best business phones on the market, with one major shortcoming: Its pint-size display has always been a bit too small to get real work done. Apple addressed that issue with the iPhone 6, a scaled-up iPhone that finally offers enough screen space for real productivity. Apple did more than give its new smartphone a larger display; the iPhone 6 has been totally redesigned, with a superthin profile and smooth curves in place of the boxy edges on older models. Plus, the iPhone 6 ships with iOS 8, a revamped version of Apple's mobile operating system that adds a slew of new productivity-boosting features for business users. But Apple still has some catching up to do in a few areas. The iPhone 6 has shorter battery life than other flagship smartphones, and iOS 8, which slick and easy to use, still has some annoying limitations. So should business users upgrade to Apple's new flagship phone, or opt for an Android device instead? Display These days, … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone 6 Review: Is It Good for Business?
The big new iPhone 6 Plus could be huge for business users. It's the first iPhone with a screen topping 5 inches, giving you tons of space to work. It also features long battery life, blazing-fast performance and genuinely innovative software features that make the big screen easier to use. And it ships with iOS 8, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. But it's not without flaws. The iPhone 6 Plus is a handful, and it's seriously hard to use with one hand. And the screen isn't the only thing that's been supersized — so has the price. But if you can deal with the size, cost and some annoying software limitations, the iPhone 6 Plus might be Apple's most productive smartphone yet. Display The iPhone has always been one of the best business phones around, but the small 4-inch screen of the last few models was just too cramped to really work on. And the standard iPhone 6, which launched alongside the 6 Plus with a 4.7-inch screen, strikes a good middle ground. So has … [Read more...] about iPhone 6 Plus Review: Is it Good for Business?
