Why should the owner pay for it. posted on 01 Jan 2018, 18:46 3 14. The protocol is designed to not heavily stress aging batteries, not faulty ones. 20. guest (Posts: 346; Member since: 13 Jun 2012) Of course it's their fault they pushed the envelope so hard to get attention grabbing benchmark scores knowing full well the battery will degrade and their processor design needs tip top voltage to operate. Breaking news: Thank you, Steve. For all you've done, for all of us. As most of you know, I dislike the iPhone and its Playskool interface. I find it, and Apple's policies, to be a constant source of annoyance. And yet, even as I know there's almost a 100% probability that the iPhone 5 is going to annoy me, I'm going to buy another crappy iPhone and NOT buy an Android phone. Related: So here's the thing. I have an iPhone 3G. Not even a 3GS, not an iPhone 4. It's a plain old iPhone 3G that I've had for three years. It sucks. It's slow. It won't update properly. Half the apps I'd like to run on it won't run on such an ancient device (only in the tech world is a three-year old device ancient). I desperately need a new phone. Well, technically, that's not true. I don't actually use the iPhone as a phone. I almost never make actual voice calls (does anyone, these days)? Instead, I use it for email, for network testing, for an occasional text to my wife, and for reading Kindle books. … [Read more...] about 10 reasons NOT to buy an Android and why I’m waiting for the iPhone 5

Review By Daniel Eran Dilger Tuesday, September 26, 2017, 06:30 pm PT (09:30 pm ET) Apple's latest iPhone 8 is supercharged by its new A11 Bionic chip, which does the heavy lifting for a series of major new camera features as well as making everything faster. It also packs iPad Pro's True Tone display and Fast Charging, and adds Qi wireless charging through its beautifully glossy rear glass back, built in a familiar shape but with a new steel structure ringed in an aluminum band with precision seams that continue the water and dust resistance of the previous 7 generation. iPhone 8 models carry forward all of the features of Apple's previous iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (this year's top selling smartphones), along with top to bottom enhancements including: a new aluminum-ringed, strengthened glass case architecture that provides a distinctive appearance and enables the convenience of Qi "wireless" inductive charging with iP67 dust and liquid intrusion resistance; new USB-PD Fast Charging; … [Read more...] about Super fast bionic glass: iPhone 8 Review
Review By Daniel Eran Dilger Wednesday, November 01, 2017, 10:54 pm PT (01:54 am ET) Apple's iPhone X introduces the next decade of iOS. It pairs an advanced, full-face display with a strikingly beautiful glass and steel design. It invents new multitouch alternatives to the Home button and introduces an advanced TrueDepth 3D camera system, fast Face ID authentication and futuristic augmented reality effects from Portrait Lighting selfies to Animoji, further expanding its role in defining affordable luxury in mobile devices.iPhone X boldly diverges from a solid, ten year design iPhone X fundamentally changes many aspects of what has been the most incredibly popular and lucrative franchise in consumer technology. That could be seen as a wildly risky move: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" But in the fast-moving world of technology innovators, the prime directive is to "move fast and break things" to deliver something even better. Apple prefers to think of its new phone as finally … [Read more...] about iPhone X review: Apple’s Face ID vision for the future of iOS
When Steve Jobs announced 720p, 30fps video recording on the iPhone 4 during the WWDC 2010 keynote, the first thing that popped into my head was: "Wow, now I don't have any use for my Flip MinoHD video camera!" I have since then done some thinking and researching about this very topic to determine if this is really case. In order for the iPhone 4 to replace my Flip, it must do close to everything just as well as the Flip. By everything, I mean video and audio quality, storage capacity, battery life, portability, convenience, and ease of use. Let's take a look after the break. Ease of use and convenience Both the iPhone and Flip are very portable and easy to use. However, even though the Flip is small, it would be much more convenient to carry only an iPhone with me. Lens quality In the same category as video quality, we must also consider the lenses of both these devices. The Flip offers a fixed focus of 1.5m to infinity, f/2.4 aperture, and 2x digital zoom. Unfortunately, Apple … [Read more...] about Will the iPhone 4 replace my Flip MinoHD?

It doesn’t cover the whole surface of the rear panel though, and it is functionally reminiscent of Samsung’s … [Read more...] about Weekly Rewind: Battery breakthroughs, game-changing EVs, floating solar plants
With Apple's annual Worldwide Developer Conference just days away, the yearning iOSphere seethes with rumors, alarums and frights. This week: touchscreens you can feel, really feel; rumor sites happily boost Liquidmetal's stock price for no good reason; high hopes for a high-definition front camera; and no one will care that iPhone 5 won't be showing up on prepaid carriers' inventory anytime soon. You read it here second.__________ "But if this [dynamically tactile touchscreen] really is a hot technology, there's a great chance Apple will rush to get its recently-granted patent into its next iPhone, which is expected to arrive in September or October." -- Dave Smith, International Business Times, following the iOSphere logic that whenever an Apple patent is published by the U.S. government, there's a "great chance" the patent's technology will appear in the next iPhone five months later.__________This rumor, as with so many, is based on the deep belief that … [Read more...] about iPhone 5 rumor rollup for the week ending June 8
